Tuesday Tunes aka Tunesday – January 22nd, 2012
Words and music choices from Ben Lembck
Without fail, like the sands of time, it is your weekly edition of Tunesday. In case you forgot, I’m here to put some English on that shot of yours by serving up some tasty tunes for your poolside hangouts, pre-game warm ups, and victory celebrations. Buckle up cause here we go.
Jessie Ware – Running
So you want to play like the lads in the British Premier League huh? No, I don’t have the answer for how to make it there, other than plenty of hard work, but I do have an artist that I’m sure those guys have been digging for plenty of time now. Straight from the UK Jessie Ware serves it up oh so smooth. When she’s not laying down vocals for SBTRKT, she’s busy doing here own thing and boy does she do it well. Keep an eye out for this one as her debut album, Devotion, wound up on plenty of best of 2012 lists. I wasn’t lying when I said I was supplying the “English” this week.
Lil Wayne, Drake, and Future – Love Me
So Tunechi’s back huh? I feel like I’ve written that before, on this very site. He’s featuring Drake too? These two are unstoppable so this track has to be fire right? Meh. It’s not that I don’t like the track, it’s just that I remember what these two can do, slow and fast. On top of that, Drake is busy killing it with dudes like A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. So I don’t know. Maybe I need to listen to this one a few more times. What I do know is, by no means am I hatin on Weezy, so I will not be kissing his ass. I’m just waiting to see more. Cause I know you have it in you. Show me the magic Weezy!
FYI – This song features some strong words
Gary Clark Jr – Bright Lights
The definition of a city jam right here. Gary Clark Jr is rock. Gary Clark Jr is blues. Gary Clark Jr can do no wrong. I’m just going to let the music do the talking on this one. (Bonus cut right HERE)
In honor of yesterday’s Inauguration Ceremony, hell yeah I’m American, we got something special for you from the POTUS himself.
