According to a report from Odeen Domingo, Phoenix FC will call the ASU Soccer Stadium their home field for the next three years. Without knowing too many details, this is a huge step in the right direction for the club.
This is the best location for a stadium. It has easy access to the 101, 202 and 60. Tempe is the heart of metropolitan Phoenix. The city touches Mesa, Chandler, Phoenix, Gilbert and Scottsdale. Based off what we have seen with the Coyotes (for those new in town when the Coyotes played in downtown Phoenix that place was sold out and rocking every night) the west side has failed to draw the casual fan to sporting events. The stadium is located next to cities that have been established for more than 10+ years and cities that have money. That might be blunt, but it’s true.
The stadium is also located a 3-minute walk from a light rail station, and those who have taken the light rail for a Diamondbacks game know how busy it gets. Mill Avenue is only a 10-minute walk away which is another big positive. The only other option I would consider to be this “high” up the list is Phoenix Municipal Stadium, but that is out of the question.
Right now it looks like the club is going in the right direction.
We will know more details tomorrow when the club makes the official announcement.
What are your thoughts on the stadium location? Sound off below.

Except, no, what was then America West Arena was not “sold out and rocking every night,” when the Coyotes didn’t average capacity during their stay there (they did well at first, as most new shiny toys do).
And if you can walk from Rural to Mill in 10 minutes, you’re hoofing it. It’s 8/10ths of a mile. The average human walks at about 3 miles an hour. You’d be doing almost 5 miles an hour.
