FC Tucson Midfielder Carlos Montes Named to PDL Team of the Week
Tucson, AZ (Thursday, July 12, 2012) — FC Tucson’s Carlos Montes was named to the Premier Development League’s Team of the Week as a midfielder by the league in an announcement made Thursday afternoon. Montes becomes the third FC Tucson player this season to be named to the Team of the Week.
“It feels great to be recognized and to represent FC Tucson,” Montes said. “I’m extremely happy and I just hope I can continue contributing to the team as we head into the playoffs.”
Montes helped FC Tucson beat BYU on Friday, July 6 with a pair of goals during a 3-0 win. That victory helped FC Tucson edge closer to the playoff berth they eventually clinched on Sunday, July 8 against Ogden.
“We are thrilled for Carlos,” said FC Tucson General Manager Jon Pearlman. “His outstanding play over the last week and month is a major reason why we’ve clinched a postseason berth.”
Montes is going to be a junior at Sana Clara. In 2011 he played in 18 of the team’s 20 games and started 15 times, helping the Broncos post the WCC’s best overall record (11-5-4) and a Top 20 national ranking (No. 18). During the season Montes scored twice and had three assists.
Three other FC Tucson players have received league honors. On the week of May 10, Donny Toia received honorable mention honors for the team of the week. On the week of May 24, Dom Papa was named to the team of the week as a defender. On the week of June 14, Travis Campbell was named PDL Player of the Week.
