Diamondbacks players Parra, Montero look on as Real Madrid attempts to play baseball

Real Madrid is in Los Angeles training at UCLA ahead of their Thursday friendly with the Los Angeles Galaxy. After training one of Monday’s sessions several players took a bit of batting practice with equipment brought by Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra and catcher Miguel Montero, who are in town for the D-backs three-game series with the Dodgers.

If the video is any indication, they didn’t do too much teaching. Xabi Alonso, as Montero notes, was by far the best prospect, but it’s safe to say nobody will be trading the white kits of Real Madrid for Yankee pinstripes any time soon. Montero said Xabi Alonso had become a fan of the sport after attending a MLB game and has practiced in the batting cages. Meanwhile, Parra said he’s a fan of Spanish football and Real Madrid, and he was honored to attend the training session of one of the best teams in the world.

Parra and Montero enjoyed their visit to training, and didn’t leave without taking a few photos and chatting a bit with goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
