AYSA Alumni Julie Johnston Selected To The U-20 US Women’s National Team

AYSA would like to congratulate Julie Johnston who grew-up in Mesa and played youth soccer in Arizona. She is a graduate of Dobson High School.
Following a two-week camp in Bradenton, Florida, Julie was selected to the United States Women’s National U-20 team which will participate in the upcoming 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held August 19th through September 8th in Japan. She is also the Team Captain.
A defender, Johnston was selected by head coach Steve Swanson to the final group of 21 players that will represent the United States as they participate in Group D of the World Cup consisting of teams from: Ghana, China PR and Germany.
Julie is currently a Junior at Santa Clara University. As a sophomore, she was a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy and a 2011 All-American. Prior to attending Santa Clara, she grew-up playing for the 2003 Arizona State Cup Champion – Gilbert Arsenal ’91 team, then moved on to play for the Sereno ’92 White team where she won Arizona State Cup seven (7) times.
